Barberton green light

LONDON, Feb 2 – Pan African Resources has given the go-ahead for Phase 1 of the Barberton gold tailings retreatment project in Mpumalanga Province, South Africa.
The R325M project aims to retreat 1.2Mtpa of gold tailings for an output of 160,000oz over a six-year life, lifting total production at the Barberton gold operations from the current 95,000oz to 120,000oz a year.
The project will also retreat material from the nearby Harper North and Harper South tailings operations, purchased by Pan African for R10M.
Commissioning of the first phase is expected to begin in April 2013. A proposed Phase 2 development would extend the project life to 12 years.
