Cortona breakthrough

SYDNEY, Feb 1 – Cortona Resources is free to pursue the development of its 100% owned Dargues Reef gold mine in New South Wales, Australia after two local conservation groups withdrew their objections to the mine.
The hearing of an appeal against ministerial approval of the mine development was due to begin in the NSW Land and Environment Court on February 1.
However, the parties informed the court on Monday that the final objecting group, the Coastwatchers Association and South East Region Conservation Alliance, had reached agreement with Cortona.
The Eurobodalla Shire Council withdrew its objection in December after Cortona satisfied concerns about the impact of the mine on water supply.
The court is now due to formally approve the development, with amendments agreed between the parties, on February 7.
The end of legal action will allow Cortona to finalise its remaining permitting requirements to develop the project.
