Manganese interest grows

PERTH, Feb 1 – Base metals explorer Syndicated Metals is developing new interest in manganese after rock chip samples returned high values of the metal near its Kalman copper-gold-molybdenum-rhenium deposit 60km southeast of Mount Isa in northwest Queensland, Australia.
The company says systematic sampling traverses at the Manganese Ridge prospect returned values up to 45m averaging 23% Mn and a peak sample of 10m at 34% Mn.
Managing director Russell Davis admits the search for manganese is not Syndicated’s priority but it was attracted to Manganese Ridge by its closeness to Kalman, the prominent outcropping nature of the mineralisation and potentially significant tonnage potential.
Follow-up work will target thicker and higher grade sections within the 6km strike length aiming to identify near-surface bodies of economically recoverable manganese oxide ore.
