ASX plans Perth mining conference
Staff reporter, 15 February 2012
THE once clear Perth mining exhibition calendar has another new entry with the Australian Resources Conference and Trade Show due to run from November 12 to 14 this year in the Western Australian capital.
Actually a mining and oil and gas expo and conference, the ARC is a joint initiative of the Australian Securities Exchange and the Australian Financial Review newspaper, with support from the Western Australian Government and Commonwealth Department of Resources and Energy. It follows last year’s inaugural Reed Mining Events Mining & Energy Western Australia expo and conference in July, now set to be a biennial event.
WA premier Colin Barnett said in an ARC press statement he welcomed the new “landmark event”.
“The state is one of the most productive and diversified mineral and petroleum regions in the world, with approximately 540 commercial mineral projects and 969 operating mines, producing over 50 different minerals,” Barnett said.
ASX managing director and CEO Elmer Funke Kupper said the organisers aimed to make ARC “the pre-eminent resources event in the Asia-Pacific region”.
“Mining and oil and gas companies comprise ASX’s largest industry group, with around 960 companies amounting to 45 per cent of all ASX-listed entities, with a market capitalisation of approximately $A450 billion.”
